Inspiration: Young Hercules
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before on the blog but I am so thankful for Hulu.com. Being able to (legally) watch obscure television shows for free on the internet has changed my life. Over the holidays, I devoted an entire two or three days to watching…….YOUNG HERCULES.
Yes, I know how absurd that might sound but I assure you, it was time well spent. I’m the type of person who isn’t embarrassed to tell you that I got fashion inspiration from a cheesy Saturday afternoon kids show that was loosely based on Greek mythology. Hell, I spent the last four years of my life living in some sort of a kooky Lisa Frank wonderland- it’s way too late to get embarrassed.
If you still think I’m crazy, just think of it this way: Ryan Gosling running around kicking ass.
Please forgive me for the grainy scree shots but it was the best I could do – for some strange reason, there isn’t a whole lot of documentation on the wardrobe from this show ; )
What is it that I loved about the styling for Young Hercules? The leather! The studs! The ambiguously archaic- mythological-futuristic designs! It was somehow fused together in a way that made the bad acting seem palatable.
I’d especially love to know where they got all the boots from. Every person who appeared on the show was outfitted in an incredible pair of lace up leather boots – many of them adorned in loads of buckles and studs!
One of the episodes that I watched featured a gang of wayward youths… and I’m not gonna lie, some of the villains were especially fly. The leader of the gang (right), had an outfit that I couldn’t help but covet. His vest was a hybridization of an army jacket – shag- and studded leather. And you wanna know the best part? He used a skinny belt to hold his layers securely in place!
The show also has a token girl sidekick.
How badass are her knee pads?
I mean, forreal.
I’m definitely feeling inspired to toughen up my wardrobe with a few key items:
