The Uniform Project
When I was in 5th grade, my parents sent me to private school. We had to wear a very (re)strict(ive) dress code. Each day, we were required to wear a polo shirt in either white or hunter green and khaki pants. There were no real Blair Waldorfs in my class, no real competition over who looked the best – at least not as far as our clothes were concerned. Perhaps its because we hadn’t realized the value of accessorizing yet – it was 5th grade after all. Now, I can’t imagine going without accessories – those final little touches that define your style and make a look. Which is probably why I was so fascinated when I read about “The Uniform Project”.
In May of this year, Sheena Matheiken pledged to only wear one dress for an entire year. She considers it “an exercise in sustainable fashion”. She has 7 identical dress (for the 7 days of the week) and she styles them with whatever accessories she fancies at the moment. But not only is The Uniform Project one woman’s personal challenge, it is also a fundraising opportunity for the Akanksha Foundation – which funds uniforms and educational expenses for children living in Indian slums.
I think this project is incredibly cool and inspiring. If you think this is half as interesting as I do, you’ll go to the website and learn more about The Uniform Project. Maybe you’ll even consider donating to the Akanksha Foundation or donating accessories to Sheena.

This is positively inspirational. I love what she’s done! I think I’ll be donating some things very soon!
