wow, she crystalized both our peoples onto the body of a white girl, didn’t know you could do so much with a tacky looking sari, some earrings, a headdress – and oh yeah some pottu – history really doesn’t matter anymore I guess, just a bunch of haphazardly thrown together signifiers
for me, the gems were “people immigrated here from all over the world to get jobs,” and tyra stating it’s not racist if it’s a fashion interpretation.
what i actually did like is that the make up artists use makeup forever, which is what i use (on paydays) which is amazing.
Linde – Too bad this didn’t air a couple of years earlier or we would have had the best costumes for senior cocktails. Maximum impact. Find a way to offend EVERY culture IN THE WORLD! Tyra dreams big.
Melanie – Not going to lie, the make-up artists are extremely talented and I find that fascinating. But yeah… not so much into the euphemisms for slavery and indentured servitude, etc…
