AWK: Urban Outfitters’ Phrenology Bust

Have you been in Urban Outfitters lately? Did you see the Phrenology busts, inspired bys scientist  L.N. Fowler, that supposedly double as jewelry stands? For those of you who didn’t study Psychology or Neuroscience, Phrenology is basically a pseudoscience which theorizes that personality traits can be determined/derived from the shape and size of the human skull. It’s been discredited (OBVIOUSLY) but was really popular in the 1800s.... Read More

Really, H&M? Really?

Dear H&M, Wtf dude!?! I’m pretty pissed with you right now. This New York Times article that describes how your company damages unsold items at the end of the season so that they cannot be resold and then disposes of these unworn goods as though they are trash is just heartbreaking.  [Deep breath] How you gonna throw away new clothing like it’s pox ridden blanket? Gasp? Alexander Wang Mens 2010

Have you seen the video preview of Alexander Wang’s 2010 menswear collection? Thoughts? I felt like I was watching the opening scenes of a movie filmed in 2005 but set in 1993. Some sort of angsty coming of age story full of class struggles, a heat wave, sex, and the protagonist shouting “I’m just trying to live” at some point. Meh. Wasn’t impressed. Oh yeah, the clothes were pretty boring too. Source: NY MAG  Read More

Lady Gaga Killed Kermit (…the frog)

There’s a lot of German happening in this video, but I distinctly heard Gaga say she dresses like this “all the time” because her whole life is art and performance. Oooooh. Okay. Ya’ll know I think she’s pretty fly, or was for a minute, but the “flacid Kermit” “Muppet graveyard” look, as described by NYMAG, is horrifying! And not in the way that I secretly enjoy.  Read More
